True Fate:

From Chapter 0.5

The night before Nia's eighteenth birthday the girls had a sleepover and that's when their worries really began. At midnight Rhea was awakened by a shaking Nia, she was clearly convulsing and twitching. Rhea tried to wake her but got no response. Violent shudders racked Nia's body hard as her eyes rolled. Rhea touched her again trying a bit more forcefully to wake her up and recoiled at the firey temperature of her skin. She tried desperately to snap her out of it but she wouldn't open her eyes. She began to really panic as the seizure made it's rapid progression. She would have taken her to the hospital if she didn't already know that Nia was somehow different. It's a good thing she didn't too. Her body calmed and Rhea froze as Nia sat up eerily slow and opened her eyes. Where there was once hazel eyes with flecks of green they glowed a molten honey, like fire. She wore a vacant expression when she spoke, eyes still glowing bright.

"A glamour is broken, a life to trade,

History shall be remade.

To right the wrong and switch the face.

Replace the toil with elegant grace.

The path that's broken will soon be repaved,

The rightful one, no longer enslaved.

The time is now and fate has seen.

Now there will be no in-between.

Do not fear, he will come for you.

Your destiny has been made new."

Nia's body slumped to the bed as Rhea looked on slack-jawed with a hand over her mouth, when she came into consciousness. She blinked shook her head and stretched sitting up slowly as if nothing had happened. Then she caught sight of a very frozen in shock, Rhea.

"What!?", was the first thing to come out of Nia's mouth. Rhea took a minute to compose herself then she told her all about her eerie words accompanied by eyes of fire and burning, hot to the touch skin. The seizure would have been disturbing all on it's own but add in everything else and it was just another secret Rhea would have to keep. Nia was shocked and at first she just didn't think it really happened. All it took was remembering the fear and shock on Rhea's face when she woke up and that was all the confirmation she needed.

Teaser #2

From Chapter 1
"Crashed"

Preoccupied with correcting her auto correct fiasco, formerly known as a text, she slams hard into what she's certain is a body.

Her messenger bag hits the linoleum with a crack! She's hoping beyond hope that it wasn't her MP3 player. Nia stifles a groan while digging in her bag. A hand comes into her vision and a decidedly male voice says, "I'm so sorry, please, let me help you up."

Nia hadn't even really looked at who she ran into, but was sure to have pink cheeks. She spends so much time in her head, she doesn't ever notice much around her. Right now she's speechless, staring at the lightest blue eyes she has ever seen, igniting her blood like it was on fire. The tips of her fingers tingle from his touch and her heart feels like it's running on rocket fuel. She can't shake the shuddering warm butterflies infiltrating her insides.

"Oh, no, it was my fault. I.....I wasn't looking where I was going.", she replied shyly not able to look away. 'Who was this weird girl!?' She internally chided herself.

Was she the only one feeling this hum of energy? It was an almost tangible feeling, but by the odd look on his face of familiarity mixed with wonder. 'Maybe he feels it too', she thought.

His radiant smile made a dimple in his cheek, causing her breath catch in her throat. "Nah, it's okay, really.", he simply replied. She gave a small smile biting the inside of her cheek and took that moment to look him over. He's not too short and not too tall, if she had to guess he was five, nine or five, ten. With short hair that's dark as night. She noticed black scrolling peeking out of his barely rolled up sleeve's on his light olive skin. His comfortable attire was almost her favorite part. She was utterly embarrassed to be caught enjoying the view. But she knew she had indeed been caught. She could tell by the confident look on his face, almost approving her ogling. 'Snap out of it Nia!', she shook herself mentally.

Trying to coax herself to speak again, for fear of seeming like a total creeper just staring at him. 'Say something!', she commanded herself as she fumbled a question out, "Well... maybe... I mean if you're not here with someone or, umm..... do you wanna have lunch with me?", Nia asked wanting to kick herself. 'That was smooth, real smooth. Ugh!', she thought.

He held out his hand for the second time and his dimple ingnited fully, causing Nia to gape like an absolute fool, "Name's Aaron Pierce and I would absolutely love to."

Placing her palm in his she got to her feet, "Epifania De La Garza. But you can call me Nia."

Teaser #3

True Fate

From Chapter 3
Sweet Dreams
Eric got up from the table, Nia looked at him curiously as he went to the living room then returned moments later with a small black lacquer box. "Here, this is for you.” he said scooting the box across the table nervously. Nia took it with shaky hands curiously opening the lid.
Nestled safely inside the velvet lining was a black bracelet with beautiful twisting filigree. In the center was what looked to be a small hollow cage. Eric took his soul stone from her hand and she gave him her left wrist, he gave her a nod of approval. Her skin heated as he ran his finger over her tattoo staring at it.
Eric gently clasped the bracelet around her wrist, he blew out a breath puffing out his cheeks. He carefully opened the little cage with shaky hands and placed the stone inside. It touched Nia's tattoo with a jolt as a tear trickled down her cheek. The enormity of the situation was like a weight in her chest. This was the most trust ever given to her in her entire life.
He clasped the cage softly and began to twist the side. Nia stared fascinated as it twisted itself the rest of the way. Eric sealed it inside with a glowing touch from his finger. The stone glowed brilliant blue light causing them both to gasp. After a moment it dimmed to just a shimmer, "It's absolutely beautiful." Nia breathed. "I promise to take care of it." She added reverently.  Eric looked up meeting her eyes, "I trust you Nia. Now you have my soul to prove it." He said while wiping another stray tear from her cheek.
They stared into each other’s eyes exchanging, she really didn't know what. But he was now a part of her and she him in a strange way. Her thoughts and questions were cut off by his husky voice thick with emotions of his own, "It's time to go." Nia could only nod in response.
He smiled and brought her to her feet gently by her hand. “Place your hand on the bracelet and clear your mind.” He instructed. "When will I see you again?” she interrupted, he smiled then and it was a brilliant smile making her breath catch. "You will see me in your dreams of course. Now it’s time for you to go back.” Nia nodded and gave him a dazzling smile of her own placing her palm down on the bracelet. The stone lit up dimly and everything started to fade. Blurring and swaying slowly until there was nothing but the black of her eyelids.

From Chapter 16
Savannah & Darragh

Savannah flicked her wrist and cupped her palms above Darragh’s face. Water came down off the leaves of the trees and up the blades of grass, it gathered there just above her hands. She blew a cold wind into it to chill it and dumped it onto his face with a satisfied smirk.
Darragh choked and coughed sitting up quickly, being jerked back into consciousness. "Well, well, well, if it isn't Lilith’s little errand boy.” she said oozing sarcasm and crossing her arms in front of herself.
"It's nice to see you too Savannah.” Darragh said wiping his face off and shaking out his black hair. He stared at her with her auburn locks falling in her face. It was way longer than he remembered and her grey eyes looked almost soft and welcoming. She gathered herself quickly and they changed to distant and furious in a flash.
He was happy to see her regardless of her anger. She was a fierce warrior and stayed on the edge of the realms offering her unique collection of talents and skills to the highest bidder.

Aaron stood and reached behind him tugging his shirt up over his head and tossing it on the floor. Warmth raced to Nia's cheeks deepening the hue and her tears settled a bit more. Her heart thumped violently inside of her chest and her breath hitched. She placed her palm to his heart and felt the rapid beat of it, smiling, happy she wasn’t the only one reacting to the contact. She took a step forward and rested her head on his chest, he sighed contentedly, wrapping his arms around her tightly. Nia melted into his strength and warmth as Aaron lifted her up and placed her on the bed then kissed the top of her head.  He grabbed his pj's and went to the other room to change.

Nia laid there, what was she going to do? Does mom know what we...... or, I, am? Or are they whatever the heck I am too? She felt herself slipping into that chaotic hurricane of thoughts and quickly decided not to go there just now and shifted back to thoughts of Aaron.
His warmth and strength, her guardian and so much more, he would do anything to protect her, she just knew it.

She wanted this forever with him more than ever before. Aaron walked back into the room, shirtless in pajama pants and popped open a soda. He took two ibuprofen and handed them to Nia and she put them in her mouth as he gave her the soda. She took the pills grateful for his thoughtfulness, she was definitely getting a headache. She took a long swig of the soda and handed it back to him. He set it on the nightstand and climbed into bed.

Nia curled up to Aaron’s chest and sighed placing her arm across him as if she always had belonged there, the rhythmic beat of his heart was so comforting. He placed a hand on her back and one behind his head.

He would lay here holding her as long as it took and he didn't really care how long that might be. She was his world now, his priority, the rest of his life could wait as far as he was concerned. As long as he knew she was safe, it would all be okay.

Nia didn't really know what to do, she just knew she wasn't ready to handle this situation with her dad. She would leave tomorrow on her road trip and hope she was ready to confront this mess when she returned. She planned to clear her mind and come to terms with what she had no control over.

She would deal with her dad when she was ready. She would have to tell them she was leaving though and she'd have to get her stuff from the house too. That could wait until tomorrow too. Aaron didn't need an explanation and he didn't need answers to any questions, he was just there for her and for that she was grateful.
